Harmony Tai Chi Qigong About Grading
Grading takes place in March and October each year. This is an opportunity for students to give themselves a challenge. Information on the exact date is available on the events page.
Each student needs a certain number of hours of attendance in classes in order to grade. The form on which to record these hours can be obtained from their instructor or by downloading the PDF file from the Documents section. It must be signed by their instructor to verify the hours attended.
Practice sessions are held at weekends just before the gradings themselves. Students can benefit from attending these as it gives them an opportunity to ask any questions about the movements. In other words, a “dress rehearsal”.
Jifus (Chinese-style suits) must be worn for gradings. Details about ordering these can be obtained from instructors. Embroidered badges with the Harmony logo on can be purchased separately.
A grading timesheet, notes on grading and Instructor notes on training for sash grading are available from the Documents page
To Grade or not To Grade?
Here are two differing opinions from students
For grading
"I decided to grade because I wanted to progress above and beyond what we did in our adult education classes. I also wanted to improve my understanding and knowledge of Tai Chi and qigong and their forms. It does mean lots of practice and it can be pretty nerve-wracking on the day, but worth it! I know that I am achieving what I set out to do and will continue to grow in mind, body and spirit (which is a very important goal for me) as I carry on with higher grades"
Against grading
"I enjoy going to classes and the occasional workshop and I'm very happy with just doing that and not grading. It means I don't have to do so much practice! I like Tai Chi and Qigong and they make me feel good, but I don't want to commit to doing any more than I am doing at the moment"
