Instructor Training
Sikung Box began the third instructor course in 2008, with the completion of
the second course who are due to receive their instructors honours in the
March grading ceremony.
We have included some information about qualifications people will need if they feel they would be interested in joining the next course.
Qualifications to be an instructor for the Harmony
Criteria have already been agreed to establish the suitability of a student wishing to join the instructors’ course.
A person can join an instructor course without actually intending to be a Sifu at the end of the course. Their intention can be just to achieve greater personal knowledge.
On completion of the three year course, the students will receive a badge identifying that they are now an instructor. This means that they can now be an assistant to a Sifu. They can take a class. A person who has finished the instructor course must still attain the number of hours required for each grading, on their way to gaining a black sash, if they wish to become a Sifu.
The instructor will be promoted to the grade of Sifu if they have achieved the following:
- The successful completion of the instructor training course.
- Achieved the level of black sash.
- Taken a class.
- After six months, one of their students grades to the accepted level, by the examiner.
If a person obtains the level of Master (4th degree) and has practised in other countries, taught workshops, lectured and overseen a three-year instructor training course, then this person can be promoted to the level of Sikung (meaning teacher of teachers).
If a student ever achieves a sixth degree, by way of internal or external promotion, this would be obtained by showing increasing knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of the subject of Tai Chi Qigong. They must also have obtained a greater understanding and knowledge of themselves and moving towards their Dao.
If they promote a person to Master grade, they will then be titled “Grand
Master”
